General & News / Let's Do Have Breakfast - Left Bank East Fremantle
« Last post by Catherine on July 08, 2012, 05:26:59 am »
Saturday mornings are always a great day to sleep in, especially winter but I’ve decided that Saturday mornings are going to be put to better use. These days there are plenty of breakfast places to eat at and to mix up the winter grind and winter blues a little better, I’ve decided to go somewhere nice for breakfasts during winter Saturdays.

Yesterday (Saturday) I went to two places. Firstly at 8 am to the “Left Bank” When I was growing up, this stately abandoned home was a boarded up ruin. Today it has been turned into a bar and grill that stands at the mouth of the Swan River in East Fremantle. At night, it’s a trendy bar but in the mornings, it’s a great place for breakfast..

At 9 am, I’d arrived at Fremantle Arts centre. Shaun Tan’s art exhibition was on there but didn’t open until 10 so the café for another round of coffee was the only alternative for more enjoyable time passing and by this time, the huge breakfast I had previously was actually starting to weigh me down. I think next Saturday, I won’t order such a big breakfast….maybe it's better to have brunch…Fremantle art centre’s  café has a new Israeli chef and his menu is Moroccan.

Now Shaun Tan is an animator who won an academy award a couple of years ago. I also have some of his art work photographed…

Full breakfast at the Left bank set me back $50 ….42 of that went towards the food and $8.00 for coffee.. Too much really… but C’est Le Vie…. But for overseas people, Aussies don’t “tip” as wages are very high. Hence I guess for the high prices you pay at restaurants.

Rather than post a whole bunch of pictures, its better make a short film and slide show…. This is part of the grounds inside the former asylum, Girls school, Convent and was a building by convict labour in the 1800s. Shaun Tan a Perth boy now living in Melbourne won an academy award a couple of years ago for animation.

Instead of just having coffee next week, I’m going to have the breakfast at the Fremantle Arts centre and try them. I met the chef and he makes a Moroccan style menu.

You gotta watch this…

I’m all so emotional about it.. to see another Phar Lap in my lifetime something no one thought they would ever see again and poor Black Caviar broke stride so damage has been done.. She must come home and rest for a bit.

BLACK Caviar, the racehorse that has captured the hearts of Australians like no other since Phar Lap, showed the world why she is regarded as the greatest sprinter of all-time with a memorable win at Royal Ascot.

But for a few strides near the line, the whole nation held its breath for a moment when jockey Luke Nolen eased up 75m out and was nearly caught by French mare Moonlight Cloud.

Nolen realised his error and shook the reins in the final three strides as Black Caviar held on to score a narrow and famous win.

Before Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and more than 75,000 racegoers, Black Caviar kept her perfect race record intact and showcased her extraordinary talents with a brilliant win in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes.

After the race, relief was the immediate and overwhelming emotion for trainer Peter Moody, jockey Luke Nolen, and the mare's syndicate of owners after they had endured intense media scrutiny and pressure in the build-up to Royal Ascot.
